Brooklyn retailer organizing second edition of Bike Shop Day

Published May 21, 2018

NEW YORK (BRAIN) — Joe Nocella, owner of 718 Cyclery in Brooklyn, is inviting fellow retailers to participate in the second edition of Bike Shop Day, which is aimed at connecting independent bike dealers and their communities.

The event is modeled on Record Store Day, which celebrates independent record stores each April. More than 40 shops in 23 states, plus one retailer in Russia, participated in last year’s inaugural Bike Shop Day.

This year’s edition is set for Dec. 1, and Nocella is asking shops and vendors to submit proposals for events that will welcome people who are underrepresented in the cycling industry.

“We had a much larger-than-anticipated platform when we launched Bike Shop Day in December 2017,” Nocella said.  “After the event, we decided that perhaps we can use this platform to help move the needle in the direction of diversity and inclusion in the cycling Industry.”

Bike shops and vendors from around the world who would like to participate are encouraged to fill out a brief form at www.BikeShopDay.com. Registration is free, and all shops and vendors will be listed on the website. Participating shops get a free sticker and postcard media pack and access to logo artwork to use for marketing.
