PHILADELPHIA, PA (BRAIN) — A three-year-old Pennsylvania brand is offering custom U.S.-made cargo bikes and electric bikes, bringing utilitarian options to consumers with specific needs.
Lance Portnoff launched Design Logic Bikes in 2010. An early prototype electric-powered bike took ninth place out of 50 contestants at the Arizona Death Race, an e-bike rally held around Halloween in Tempe. Portnoff offered bikes with small gasoline engines until earlier this year, but has moved to electric motors more recently, he said.
The Design Logic line includes electric-powered long-wheelbase bikes, the shorter, lighter-weight Da-Trail and the new Da-Bomb fat-tired cargo bike. The company also offers a cargo trailer (Da-Trailer) and optional trailer hitch attachment (Da-Hitch). Many of the Design Logic bikes feature an intergrated rear rack rated to carry up to 150 pounds.
The frames are welded in California and are powder coated. Consumers can choose component options depending on their needs. Design Logic Bikes sells consumer direct through its website and eBay.
