NEW YORK (BRAIN) — Citi Bike pedal bikes now will be available through the ride-sharing Lyft app. Previously, Lyft bike-sharing users needed a Citi Bike account to locate and rent.
Lyft purchased Motivate, which operates the Citi Bike bike-sharing fleet, in November 2018 and said it would invest $100 million into the program.
The Citi Bike integration into the Lyft app has been in the works for a few months, a Lyft spokesman said Thursday. A beta version was unveiled in April to about 20% of Lyft users, he said.
The company's e-bikes are being redesigned and won't be available until the fall. They were taken out of service April 14 because of excessive front brake force. The Lyft spokesman said Thursday the company will not disclose details about the redesign or its progress.
Lyft was the latest to report a Shimano brake issue. Uber also had some brake-force issues until its bikes were updated with a power modulator.
