Steve Frothingham

Steve is in his second stint at BRAIN. He was here at the beginning in 1992 while still working for a bike shop in Santa Fe, N.M. He wrote several articles for BRAIN's first issue and later joined the staff, eventually becoming managing editor and then executive editor.

After leaving BRAIN in 1997 he worked for several news organizations including The Associated Press and VeloNews before rejoining BRAIN as web editor in 2011.

He is based in Longmont, Colorado, and is an enthusiastic (and slow) road, mountain bike and cyclocross rider.

MORGAN HILL, Calif. (BRAIN) — Slate Olson, who is currently Rapha's chief marketing officer, will relocate from London to California next year to join Specialized as vice president of global marketing in March.

EMMAUS, Pa. (BRAIN) — Bicycling magazine has seen a 20 percent increase in sold advertising pages in 2014, compared to the same period last year. Publisher Zack Grice said the growth rate exceeds that of any U.S. magazine, in any category, monthly or bi-monthly, that is audited.

NEWBURY PARK, Calif. (BRAIN) — Giant USA is calling out several of its U.S. competitors for selling outside the traditional IBD channel. In a sales letter sent to its dealers this week, John "JT" Thompson, Giant USA's executive sales director, included a chart (.pdf) that showed which of its major competitors sold consumer direct, or via sporting goods stores or online retailers.
