SAN ANTONIO, Texas (BRAIN) — A 67-year-old woman has been charged with DWI and intoxicated assault in connection with the death of local entrepreneur Tito Bradshaw. Police reports say Bradshaw died late Monday from injuries he sustained when a vehicle driven by Linda Collier Mason struck him while he was bike riding. The incident happened at about 12:30 a.m. Monday.
Bradshaw owned Bottom Bracket Bike Shop, which closed temporarily last month according to the shop's Facebook page. He also was part owner of the Bottom Bracket Social Club, a bar/nightclub that shut down last year. Bradshaw was a leader in the bicycle community who organized group rides and events. He was 35.
According to police, Mason hit Bradshaw from behind. She told police "she saw the bicyclist because of his flashing light but failed to avoid hitting him." Police determined she was intoxicated at the scene.
A police representative told BRAIN on Wednesday that they planned to upgrade Mason's assault charge to intoxicated manslaughter. She was released on $7,500 bond on Tuesday.
Friends held a memorial ride Monday, and a memorial service is planned for Sunday at 2 p.m. at The Parish, located at 1624 Buena Vista Street in San Antonio.
Supporters have also launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist Bradshaw's family.
San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg was among those who memorialized Bradshaw on social media this week:
Rest In Peace, Tito. Your body may be gone but your spirit will remain in our community forever. Our work will be in your memory.
