Roll Plans Move to Larger Location

Published January 11, 2010

UPPER ARLINGTON, OHIO (BRAIN)—Roll will expand and relocate one of its three locations this spring in order to better serve the Columbus, Ohio market.

The Lane Avenue Roll will be on the city’s west side, complementing existing stores on the north and east sides of Columbus. Roll will close its Dayton store once Lane Avenue opens in mid-April.

Having the stores closer in proximity will help with marketing efforts and managing the operation, said Roll owner Stuart Hunter.

At 6,000 square feet, Lane Avenue will be double the size of the Dayton location and Roll’s largest store, Hunter said.

Roll carries Giant, IF, Niner, BMC, Swobo, Terry and Colnago, but could be modifying that lineup, or models within that lineup, in light of the additional space.

“We’re certainly expanding both the sport and active side of our business,” Hunter said.

Hunter opened the first Roll four years ago with an eye toward understanding customer needs from both a shopping and riding standpoint, and focusing on customer service. The concept has been successful with Roll bucking retail trends of declining sales with the slow economy, Hunter said.

Hunter said he was able to negotiate a better lease given the recessionary environment, but that wasn’t a deciding factor for the move to a larger location.
