WILTON, Conn. (BRAIN) — Cannondale is conducting a recall of the front racks used on some Cannondale Treadwell bike models because the rack's bolts can allow the rack to fall off.
In a safety notice being released Tuesday, the company said it has received "a few reports" of the issue, which could cause the rack to fall onto the front wheel and stop the bike abruptly.
Cannondale said it is working with government safety issues on an improved rack attachment system, which will be installed by Cannondale dealers on affected bikes.
"We are working to finalize this improved attachment system and obtain required government approvals," the company said.
It said in the meantime, Cannondale dealers are being asked to stop selling the rack and remove them from any Treadwell bikes in stock.
Cannondale also is providing a video with instructions on removing the rack so the bike is safe to ride. The company said consumers should save the rack and all its parts until the company contacts them with further information.
