Walmart introduces Ozark Trail brand of mountain bikes

Published April 3, 2023

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (BRAIN) — Walmart is selling its own brand of mountain bikes starting at $198 in three aluminum frame sizes, mechanical disc brakes, and a short-travel suspension forks.

Walmart has used the Ozark Trail brand on outdoor gear for decades, but this is the first time it's been used on bikes. The line includes 24-, 27.5-, and 29-inch wheel size bikes available in-store and online through Walmart.com.

The most expensive model is $398 for the 29er, and the 27.5 model is $298. The 24-inch youth model is $198. All models have 1x drivetrains. The 27.5-, 29-inch models have internal cable routing with a 100mm Suntour SR fork. The 27.5 has eight speeds, the 29er nine speeds with a LTWOO derailleur.

"We have developed a bike for the weekend warrior that is ready to hit the trails," said Maddy Johnson, associate merchant for adult bikes at Walmart U.S. "Many of the bikes in this sport come with a high price point. We wanted to offer our customers a more affordable option while maintaining the quality and versatility that the sport requires, and I think we've done that with the Ozark Trail bike."

Four years ago, Walmart introduced another house brand, Viathon, a high-end mountain, gravel, and road bike line. Viathon models were available online through Walmart.com, but they have been out of stock for some time, and there's been no announcement from Walmart about its future. The company has not responded to numerous BRAIN requests for an update. The latest Viathon models listed on the Viathon website are from 2020.
