Ibis and Stan's collaborate on new rims

Published May 21, 2019

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (BRAIN) — Ibis Cycles has launched a redesign of its carbon wheels in collaboration with Stan's NoTubes. The new Ibis S-Wheels use Stan's patented Bead Socket Technology, which includes shorter sidewalls and a "drop-channel" rim profile said to make tire installation easier and to improve tubeless tire performance.

Ibis combined the Stan's technology with its favored wide, asymmetric rim design and "Hybrid Carbon" material.

"The collaboration with Stan's brings the advantages of patented Stan's BST to our wide, strong and light asym rims, significantly improving the impact resistance and ease of tire mounting," said Ibis' CEO, Hans Heim.

Ibis said the new rims are 9% better at resisting impacts than its outgoing wheels, while also being lighter.

Ibis offers two carbon rim models: S35 and S28, with the model numbers referring to the rim's internal width in millimeters.

Both models will be available in the aftermarket later this year as individual rims or wheelsets.

The S35 wheels are available now on complete Ibis bikes. S28 rims and wheels will be shipping later this summer.

The complete wheels will be available in two builds, I9 and Logo. The I9 wheels are built with Industry Nine's new Hydra Hubs and bladed Sapim CX-Ray spokes. They retail for $1,799 in the aftermarket and are also available as bike build upgrade for $1,300.

The Logo wheel models use an Ibis-branded hub that uses Enduro bearings, laced with double butted Sapim D-Light spokes. They retail for $1,299 in the aftermarket and are available as a bike upgrade for $899.

The wheels have a seven-year warranty.
