Quarq offers new power meter crank model that will retail as low as $800

MONTEREY, Calif. (BRAIN) — After announcing a reduction in retail price for its existing power meter cranks earlier this month, SRAM’s Quarq brand announced a new model Friday that hits its lowest price yet: as low as $799 for crank arms and spider without chainrings.

The new Quarq Riken AL crank measures power at the spider, showing power from each leg with a claimed accuracy of +/- 1.5 percent. It has automatic temperature compensation, accelerometer-based cadence, and an LED to streamline installation and operation. Unlike other Quarq models, the Riken AL has aluminum arms, rather than carbon, to save cost.

The Riken AL chassis is $799 for GXP bottom brackets, or $829 for BB30 bottom brackets. The 110mm BCD chassis is available now; a 130mm BCD model will be available in July.

The new model follows a flurry of recent announcements of lower priced power meters options from Pioneer, Rotor and PowerTap. Garmin announced an $800 pedal system, with a power meter on one side, last year; Stages Cycling offers several models of left crank arms with power meters starting at $699.

The Riken AL 110BCD chassis is available now.
