COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (BRAIN) — Haute Route, a multi-day event series for amateur road cyclists, has appointed cycling industry veteran Micah Rice as head of operations for North America. Rice comes to Haute Route from USA Cycling, where he has been vice president of national events for the last five years.
Headquartered in Colorado, Rice will manage day-to-day operations for Haute Route's U.S. office.
"Haute Route has ambitious growth plans in North America and Micah's decades of expertise will be a great asset as we continue to build unprecedented experiences for amateur riders in 2018 and beyond. He is a proven leader with a track record of success in the development and execution of high level cycling events," said Alain Lambert, the chairman of Haute Route North America.
Rice said, "I am thrilled to join the Haute Route team and support its growth plans for North America. Amateur cyclists of all fitness levels, experience and riding abilities are increasingly looking for premium experiences and new challenges. Haute Route offers an event format and pro-like services that are unique and needed for this market."
Haute Route runs 3- and 7-day events where amateur participants ride challenging routes and enjoy support similar to that received by top pro racers. Haute Route launched its first North American event in June with the Mavic Haute Route Rockies. Another Colorado event is planned for 2018, along with six events in Europe.
