PORTLAND, Ore. (BRAIN) — Chris King Precision Components is hosting a panel discussion on the state of the independent bicycle dealer, with participants including bike retailers and representatives from several major brands. The discussion will be held Friday Oct. 13 at CKPC's headquarters here, and will be part of three days of events including factory tours and group rides.
The panel discussion is titled, "The State of the IBD in an Evolving Retail Landscape." It will be moderated by Pinkbike. Retailers will join representatives from Santa Cruz Bicycles, Pivot, Fox Racing, and other brands.
"The focus is on setting the IBD up for success in regards to an omnichannel product launch calendar in an era of ever changing spec," CKPC said.
Panel discussion topics include:
- How have product launches changed? What are the effects on your business of these changes?
- Do you feel that customers are responding well to the new style of launches?
- How are you leveraging other business categories such as; service center, shuttle service, travel, or soft goods?
- How are new product specs effecting IBDs? How does it effect the assortment that you stock?
- How is the industry approaching direct to consumer sales?
There will also be a segment of the panel discussion that includes questions submitted by Pinkbike readers.
The discussion will begin at 10:30 a.m., break for lunch between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m., and resume from 1:30-4:00 p.m., with a Q & A from 4-5 p.m.
On Saturday Oct. 14, There will be a Chris King Open House and Builder Showcase that is open to the public. Custom bikes from Allied, Argonaut, Breadwinner, Caletti, Crema, DeSalvo, Moots, Seven, and Simworks will be on display, showcasing Chris King's new Matte Punch color. ENVE and Santa Cruz will also be displaying special bikes and components. CKPC factory floor tours will be given.
On Sunday, Oct. 15, there will be a bike ride hosted by Breadwinner Cycles and Cafe 8:30 a..m The ride will begin from Breadwinner Cycles and Café at 2323 North Williams Avenue in Portland. The ride will be of moderate pace and regroup at the top of bigger climbs.
