BERKELEY, Calif. (BRAIN) — The National Interscholastic Cycling Association has added four new board members, done some organizational restructuring and added new staff to meet the needs of continued growth in high school mountain bike racing.
As part of the changes, Austin McInerny, who had been NICA's executive director, will now be its president, with a newly defined riole. McINerny said, "NICA has consistently achieved a year-over-year growth of 40 percent for student-athletes and 30 percent for NICA licensed coaches. In 2017, we predict participation to include over 12,000 student-athletes and more than 4,000 coaches across 18 states with a number of new leagues also joining us. To keep pace, I am thrilled that our organization is evolving and growing internally to meet the ever-increasing demand for our services and programs."
New members of the NICA board of directors are: Scott Chapin of Wisconsin, Libby Shea Hurley of Minnesota, Pamela Kostka of California and Melissa Walker of Oregon.
Jerry Pomije, an executive vice president at Quality Bicycle Products, and current NICA board president has been appointed as NICA Chairman of the Board.
Susan Helm-Murtagh, adjunct assistant professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and president of NICA's North Carolina Interscholastic Cycling League, has been appointed vice-chair of the board and will also be chairing the board's Governance Committee.
Dan Brooks, co-founder of NICA's Georgia Interscholastic Cycling League and a businessman in Atlanta, Georgia has been appointed chair of the board's Committee on League Outreach.
Lauren Haughey, who had been NICA's director of finance and administration, is being promoted to vice president of Finance and Administration.
Lauren Duensing, NICA's senior program director is being promoted to vice president of programs.
Chris Spencer, who has been with NICA for seven years, and senior program manager for the last three years, is being promoted to director of training and risk management.
Julia Lawrence, a registration coordinator and licensed coach, is being promoted to registration administration manager.
Tracey Bracco is being promoted to accounting manager and will be managing the organization's accounting department staff.
