TAMPA, FL (BRAIN) — Organizers of the Amgen Tour of California are producing a new series of events in partnership with Ride 2 Recovery, a nonprofit whose mission is to improve the health of recovering Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans.
The Amgen Tour of California Honor Ride Series will include 15 non-competitive rides, the first being held Feb. 2 in Tampa, Florida. The rides will cover from 15 to 100 miles and each event will honor a fallen hero from the local community.
"We are excited to be working with AEG and the team of great people who have created the Amgen Tour of California," said John Wordin, founder and CEO of Ride 2 Recovery. "With the support of the Amgen Tour of California, AEG and other R2R partners, we will have the opportunity to build and expand the foundation efforts and bring the great sport of cycling to even more of our healing heroes who have the opportunity to use cycling as a means of rehabilitation when they get home from serving our country."
Included in the ride series are two new events corresponding to the Amgen Tour of California overall start and finish.
