Women’s mountain bike retreat planned for Big Bear
BIG BEAR LAKE, CA (BRAIN) Thursday March 22 2012 2:22 PM MT—4 Seasons Coaching is planning a women's mountain bike retreat for May 25-28. Leading the retreat is ultra endurance mountain bike racer and 7 Summits mountaineer, Karen (Super K) Lundgren.
"We want this to be a safe learning environment for women who may be new to the sport or are looking to increase their skill set on a mountain bike in a supportive atmosphere," said Lundgren. "This will be a great opportunity for participants to build confidence, improve their riding and learn to love everything about mountain biking."

Trek Dirt Series skills camps enter 12th season
WHISTLER, BC (BRAIN) Thursday March 22 2012 2:25 PM MT—The Trek Dirt Series is entering its 12th season, with instructional weekend camps planned at some of the sport’s most popular destinations.
Founded in 2001 by Candace Shadley of Whistler, British Columbia, the Dirt Series travels throughout western North America, with the goal of developing riders through a supportive, step-by-step process.
Of the 18 planned stops, 16 are scheduled as women’s-only events while two will be co-ed.
Camps are open to beginner, intermediate, and advanced riders. Participants are divided into small groups based on abilities and interests. The small groups also allow riders to focus on cross-country, downhill, or freeride skills, based on their interest.

Lenox, Mass, to host cyclosportif
LENOX, MA (BRAIN) Thursday March 22 2012 2:31 PM MT—Sparta Cycling is organizing the inaugural Berkshire Cycling Classic, to be held May 6. The recreational cycling event, run in a format known internationally as a cyclosportif, is open to cyclists of all abilities and ages but aimed at riders looking for a challenging experience.
Sparta Cycling, which also produces the Harlem Cycling Classic criterium, said the goal is to create a “day in the pros” for the enthusiast rider.
Cyclosportif is a French term for a recreational cycling event where participation can number in the thousands and include riders from around the globe. The Italian term “gran fondo.” or big ride, is often used for these events in the United States.
The Berkshire Cycling Classic will feature route selections of 62 and 81 miles (100k and 130k). Overall times for both distances will be recorded and ranked according to age groups.
