League honors members of congress as Champions of Bicycling • League challenges nation to 'Get Up & Ride' • Cane Creek donates $8k
WASHINGTON. DC (BRAIN) Thursday March 22 2012 1:21 PM MT—The League of American Bicyclists on Thursday presented leadership awards to 13 members of Congress for their strong support of healthy, active transportation options.
"Unlike so many issues on Capitol Hill, bicycling truly transcends political party, bringing Republicans and Democrats together to protect and promote the health and safety of their constituents," said Andy Clarke, the League's president.

Get Up & Ride Challenge is on
WASHINGTON, DC (BRAIN) Thursday March 22 2012 1:16 PM MT—Announced at the National Bike Summit Wednesday, the 2012 Get Up & Ride National Bike Challenge is a new nationwide program to encourage people to bike for transportation and recreation. The League of American Bicyclists is partnering with Kimberly-Clark, Bikes Belong and Endomondo to produce the friendly competition that runs from May 1 to August 31.
The idea was sparked by Kimberly-Clark research engineer Rob Gusky, and the company extended the competition to its 57,000 global employees. Participating K-C employees logged 357,739 miles globally, with U.S. employees pedaling 182,210 miles.

Cane Creek donates $8k at Bike Summit
WASHINGTON, DC (BRAIN) Thursday March 22 2012 1:26 PM MT—Cane Creek Cycling Components's “Road to Washington” initiative, launched in January, has raised more than $8,000. The funds were split between the Bikes Belong Coalition and the International Mountain Bicycling Association. Cane Creek has donated a percentage of headset sales plus dealer sign-ups to Cane Creek’s Headset Rewards program to achieve the goal.
Chris Strout, director of domestic sales for Cane Creek, presented checks to each organization at the National Bike Summit this week.
“There has been a lot of positive energy from shops for this,” according to Strout. “Any optimism we’re feeling in the industry right now is tempered by the challenges bicycle advocacy faces in Congress, and dealers have expressed their appreciation at having another avenue to support these fantastic organizations.”
