Windham, New York, to host UCI World Cup again
WINDHAM, NY (BRAIN)—For the third year in a row, Windham Mountain will host a UCI World Cup mountain bike event, this year from June 30-July 1.
Windham is coming back from devastating losses from Tropical Sorm Irene and Hurricane Lee last year. Many businesses and homes in town were destroyed or damaged in the floods following the storms.
“The people of Windham are tenacious and the community rallied around amazing support from near and far to work to get the mountain and town ready for ski season and, eventually, the World Cup,” said race director Nick Bove.
Organizers are planning many community events again this year during the World Cup week, including cross-country and downhill racing for all levels of ability, a block party and a concert.
Windham is the eighth stop on a tour that also visits Pietermaritzburg, South Africa; Houffalize, Belgium; Nove Mesto na Morave, Czech Republic; La Bresse, France; Val di Sole, Italy; Fort William, Great Britain; Mont Sainte-Anne, Canada; Val d’Isere, France; and Hafjell, Norway.
POC sponsors Eastern States DH series
PORTSMOUTH, NH (BRAIN)—Protective gear maker POC Sports is the title sponsor of the 2012 POC Eastern States Cup Downhill Mountain Bike Race Series. The ESC will host two USA Cycling USAC Pro Gravity Tour National Series races this season.
The series offers $28,000 in cash prizes to amateurs and pros at 14 races.
The series was established in 2010 to provide gravity racers the opportunity to race closer to home, making the series more affordable as well as promoting the variety of terrain at some of the East Coasts’ long-standing lift-serviced mountains.
