NEW YORK CITY, NY (BRAIN)—Bike New York has announced plans to launch a new bike expo in New York City next May 3-5, just prior to the 2012 TD Bank Five Boro Bike Tour.
The nonprofit, which organizes the popular 43-mile ride that attracts 32,000 cyclists every year, expects more than 130 vendors to set up booths at the Basketball City on Pier 36. The expo, which will feature live performances, giveaways and bicycle classes, will be free and open to the public, Bike New York said in a press release.
Participants of the Five Boro Bike Tour will be able to pick up their rider packets at the expo, something Bike New York expects will boost attendance.
Outdoor retailer Eastern Mountain Sports is the presenting sponsor.
“2012 will be a big year for biking in New York City and we want an event to match,” said Ken Podziba, president and CEO of Bike New York, in a press release. “With more people biking, the increasing expansion of bike lanes, and bike share around the corner, the New York City Bike Expo will be the perfect platform to showcase what a bike friendly city New York has become.”
All booth sales and profits from the expo will go toward Bike New York’s bicycle education and safety classes.
Bike New York said more details will be announced early next year.
