CENTRAL POINT, OR (BRAIN)—South African-made Morewood Bikes is now available in the U.S. through Oregon based distributor Unique Sports Co.
Unique Sports already has stock of frames and spare parts to support 2011 and prevous model year frames, and will offer the full line of next year’s bikes including the Makulu DH and Sukuma all mountain frame using Dave Weagle’s Split Pivot suspension design.
Richard Carter, owner of Morewood, took full control of the brand earlier this year after his partner and the brand’s namesake, Patrick Morewood, left the company to pursue new challenges. Carter has set up new management in South Africa with plans to increase distribution worldwide. Part of that plan will be additions to the dealer network in the U.S. through Unique Sports.
“We are very happy to have secured full blown distribution in the U.S. in order to provide continued support to our loyal customers,” Carter said.
For the past two years, the brand has been distributed in the U.S. directly from the factory with support from sales rep Lance Tueller of Entrada Imports. Bikes were available through a separate third-party distributor in previous years.
Unique Sports Company distributes a growing line of exclusive foreign brands throughout the U.S., including iXS, Orange Mountain Bikes and Grammo.
“Richard and the team at Morewood have developed an incredible range of products which will be a perfect addition to our catalogue, their philosophy and goals are matched with ours,” said Lewis Hollingworth VP USCO.
Morewood was founded in 2002. Bikes are designed, engineered and manufactured in Pietermartizburg, home of the African leg of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup.
