A total of 34 teams from 10 states entered the Oregon Manifest Constructor's Design Challenge. The bikes were displayed at the Pacific Northwest College of Art in the Pearl District. The winning bikes and three others, created as collaborations between bike builders and design firms, including Portland's Ziba, will be on display at the Museum of Contemporary Craft, 724 N.W. Davis St., from Tuesday through Oct. 27.
Here are the winners:
First: Tony Pereira (pictured) of Pereira Cycles of Portland with a $3,000 prize, with a bicycle that featured an electric-assisted riding gear as well as a locking carbon fiber gear box. Pereira, with an innovative on-board U-lock, won the first Manifest, in 2009.
Second: Tsunehiro Cycles and Silas Beebe/ID +, both of Portland, with a $1,200 prize
Third: Cielo by Chris King of Portland, with an $800 prize.
Honorable mentions: Cutter Design of San Luis Obispo, Calif., (first), and Frances Cycles of Santa Cruz, Calif. (second).
Student category winner: University of Oregon.
