SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA (BRAIN)—On March 26, Soma Fabrications and its parent company The Merry Sales Co., pledged to donate 10 percent of its net sales of all Japanese made products to aid in Japan's disaster recovery.

“We wrapped up the fundraiser on April 26 and are happy to be report we were able to raise over $11,000 for the Soma City Earthquake Disaster Orphan Scholarship Fund,” said Stan Pun, The Merry Sales company’s marketing manager. “We thank all the distributors, bicycle shops, and customers who patronized us during our fundraiser."

“Soma was hit hard by the tsunami and is located 25 miles of north of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant. They lost 475 of their citizens and 44 children became orphans. Among the 44 orphans, nine are children of citizens who volunteered as rescue workers,” Pun added.

The fund was established by the Soma City Council and hopes to provide 30,000 yen ($360) every month to each orphan until they reach 18 years of age.
