LAKE FOREST, CA (BRAIN)—Oakley is moving forward with its digital magazine entitled One Icon: Oakley Magazine.
It's the company's bid to extend its brand to young, technically savvy audiences within the larger sports and performance lifestyle community. The digital magazine will focus on some of the world's most accomplished athletes, including Lance Armstrong and Shaun White, who was featured in its inaugural issue in November.
“With Zinio, Oakley can deliver a powerful, immersive experience that comes with go-anywhere freedom,” said Russ Ortiz, Oakley VP of global brand communications. “We can keep readers informed on everything from culture and entertainment to athletes and product innovations. From sport performance to lifestyle and beyond, readers of One Icon will have inside access to information, and Zinio lets us present it in an entertaining and enthralling way that keeps up with their active lives."
“One Icon shows the power of the digital magazine medium,” said Rich Maggiotto, president and CEO of Zinio. “It’s an exceptional showcase for art, graphics, video and inspiring content. When we teamed with Oakley to develop this niche digital magazine, we all knew it had to connect with a new generation of readers who are technology savvy, sport inspired, and living lives that never slow down. From day one, Oakley came through with truly unique content, and when it was enriched with engaging videos, a photo galleria and more, we knew it would be a success."
Zinio offers an immersive reading experience through the convenience of its award-winning Unity platform, which enables viewers to enjoy the digital magazine on virtually any reading device including the Zinio Reader for Windows and Mac desktops, as well as the Apple iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch and select Android powered devices. Zinio’s Unity platform enhances the reading experience with usability features including bookmarked pages for simple future access, offline reading and a searchable personal library.
To support the launch of One Icon, Oakley bought into the Zinio Ad Network, exposing readers of 3,500 top digital publications to the magazine’s inaugural issue. Published in November, the edition featured global snowboarding icon Shaun White along with stories on Armstrong, tennis phenom Sam Stosur, and newly crowned MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo.
The Spring 2011 issue of One Icon will feature a cover story on Oakley & Shaun White Air + Style from China.
