NEW YORK, NY (BRAIN)—Bicycling.com has added three new hires to its web staff.
Joining the staff of Bicycling.com in new positions are senior online editor Daniel McMahon, online editor Matt Allyn and Mark Remy, who will serve as online executive editor on an interim basis. All positions will report directly to Bicycling editor-in-chief Peter Flax, according to a press release.
“The upcoming year will be an important one for the Bicycling brand—especially with our 50th anniversary,” Flax said. “The same talent and ambition inherent in our print magazine must also inhabit Bicycling's position in the digital landscape. These talented new staffers, with a wide range of online journalism experience, will play a key role in getting us there and keeping us visible.”
As senior online editor, McMahon will play a lead role in developing and executing Bicycling’s editorial calendar for the web, conceiving and producing multimedia content, and managing web development projects, as well freelance contributors. McMahon comes to Bicycling from Time Inc., where he served as digital and print editor for This Old House. McMahon is an avid cyclist, has written for VeloNews and photographed races for Cyclingnews.com, and is the founding editor of CyclingReporter.com, a blog that covers the New York City bike racing scene.
Joining as online editor, Allyn will be responsible for assigning and developing content, managing the editorial calendar, overseeing Bicycling’s round-the-clock coverage of the Tour de France and other races, and contributing and editing print stories. He will also play a key role in Bicycling’s newsletters and social media efforts. Previously, Allyn has written, edited and contributed for numerous Rodale brands including various gear reviews and features for Bicycling, and recently served as web editor for Nissan’s Master the Shift program (managed by Rodale Custom Publishing), where he managed a team of 10 bloggers, developed video and other multimedia and managed SEO efforts. Allyn is a dedicated cyclist who excels at cyclocross.
Remy joins Bicycling as the online executive editor on an interim basis. He will work closely with McMahon and Allyn to develop a cohesive strategy for Bicycling.com, and to help launch some exciting new online content. Remy currently serves as the online executive editor for Runner’s World, where he has led Runnersworld.com to numerous editorial awards including a National Magazine Award for General Excellence Online, while building a website that is strong on all fronts.
