PORTLAND, OR (BRAIN)—United Bicycle Institute (UBI) will offer two new one-day seminars in disc brake technology and Chris King components at its Portland, Oregon location on October 5 and 6.
“This will be a great week to be in Portland,” said John Baxter, UBI’s administrator. “Because the Oregon Bicycle Constructors Association annual frame building show will be the following weekend. And it’s the start of cyclocross season.” The UCI recently approved disc brake use by cyclocross competitors.
UBI’s disc brake seminar provides hands-on instruction in maintenance and overhaul of systems from Shimano, Avid, Hayes, Magura and Hope. Topics include bleed procedures, line replacement and sizing, caliper construction, frame and fork prep for caliper mounting, and more.
The Chris King seminar covers frame prep procedures for installing Chris King headsets and bottom brackets, press fit dimensions, hub overhaul and maintenance, and bearing theory and maintenance. The seminar will be taught by technicians from Chris King, assisted by UBI instructors.
