BEDFORD, PA (BRAIN)—Cycling Sports Group has completed layoffs at Cannondale’s Bedford, Pennsylvania, facility as part of a previously announced plan to move frame manufacturing to Asia.
The company recently met with the final set of employees in Bedford to be impacted by the reorganization announced one year ago, which included outsourcing frame manufacturing to Taiwan for 2011 bikes.
In a statement, Cycling Sports Group said: “We are working individually with impacted employees, providing them with a variety of career transition services to assist them through the process.”
The company said it discussed with the employees the next steps of the transition and how it impacted their role with Cannondale.
Cycling Sports Group, the specialty bikes division of parent Dorel Industries, declined to specify how many employees were included in the final round of layoffs.
The Associated Press pinpointed the number at 92 and said the layoffs would occur in July. Dorel executives previously said Bedford’s staff of 300 would be reduced to 100 by the end of this year.
Last April, Dorel announced the Cannondale reorganization including Bedford’s transition away from manufacturing to bicycle and headshok assembly, CNC machining, prototyping; compliance and performance testing; sales/service; warranty; and customer service.
Bedford workers had been producing Cannondale’s mid to high-end aluminum and aluminum-carbon fiber bikes.
