Amer Sports Taps New President

Published December 28, 2009

HELSINKI, Finland (BRAIN)—A shake up at the top of Amer Sports, parent company of Mavic, has resulted in the appointment of a new president and chief executive officer.

Roger Talermo resigned from the top position on Dec. 22, according to a company issued press release. The board of directors has tapped Mr. Heikki Takala to take over on April 1.

In the mean time, Pekka Paalanne, executive vice president and deputy to the president and chief executive officers, will fill the role.

Talermo will continue with the company in a special role assigned by Amer’s board of directors until June 21.

Takala, 43, is currently the commercial director of Procter & Gamble Salon Professional Global Commercial Operations. He has worked at Procter & Gamble for 17 years in several line management positions.

The change in management came less than a week after Amer Sports said it had changed its position on potentially selling Mavic. In early September, Amer issued a press release saying it would begin exploring alternatives for Mavic, including divesting the brand. Earlier this month, Amer backed off that plan and said it would concentrate on further developing its cycling business.

Amer also owns Salomon, Wilson, Precor, Atomic, Suunto and Arc’teryx.
