HONOLULU, HI (BRAIN)—Pedal Power founder and national transportation expert and advocate Justin Fanslau says all he wants for Christmas this year is your support as he rides around the Big Island of Hawaii.
“All I want for Christmas is to raise awareness about bicyclists' rights and raise some money for bicycle advocacy in Hawaii,” Fanslau said.
Fanslau will be riding a "lei" around the Big Island—covering some 350 miles—to support the advocacy efforts of PATH, Peoples Advocacy for Trails Hawaii. PATH is a member of the statewide coalition Hawaii Pedal Power and is the first partner in HPP’s island ride series.
The island ride series was developed to support the members of the coalition. “As a member of Hawaii Pedal Power, we get so much. From Justin’s work at the Capitol and on Oahu, to the support he brings us here on our own island, we really do appreciate HPP’s commitment to making bicycling safer, more convenient and a way of life in our local communities,” said Laura Dierenfield, PATH’s executive director and founding board member of Hawaii Pedal Power.
The Holiday Ride For Dollars kicks off Monday December 21 with a reception and holiday party hosted by PATH at the Kona Brewing Company at 5 p.m. Fanslau will begin his ride the following morning leaving Kailua Kona at 7 a.m. and heading to Kawaihae.
PATH members are signing up to ride along Fanslau on the Hawaii Pedal Power Web site and their Facebook page.
“Our members are so happy to share their holiday aloha spirit with Justin as he rides around our island," Dierenfield said. "We salute Justin's commitment to bicycling in Hawaii and we are with him all the way."
