VISTA, CA (BRAIN)—Bicycle industry veteran and long-time Haro Bicycles outside sales representative, Jim Herney, recently retired. He represented Haro as one of his main lines for more than 12 years.
Herney started his career in the bike industry as the owner and operator of a bike shop in Greece, New York, in 1973. In 1978, Herney sold his shop and relocated to California where he accepted a position with Raleigh as an outside sales representative. He represented Raleigh in the states of Southern California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas and Utah until 1991.
In 1996, Herney joined Haro Bicycles as an outside sales representative for the Southern California territory. He took on the Masi road bike line when Haro acquired the brand in 2002.
“During my 35 years in the bicycle industry, I’ve seen the bike business go through many ups and downs, but the last 12-plus years representing Haro and Masi, have been the most successful and rewarding,” Herney said. “While I will miss seeing the dealers and bicycle industry employees on a regular basis, I hope that our paths will cross again. Right now, I’m looking forward to retirement and building my Factory Five Racing 1965 roadster replica.”

He’s a class act, dependable as they come, and a tough act to follow. Jim made a lot of friends along his way and I’m sure he’ll continue to do that during his retirement as well. Herney resides with his wife, Carol, in Murrieta, California.
