LAGUNA HILLS, CA (BRAIN)—It looks as though the bicycle industry wants some change at the top.
According to Bicycle Retailer and Industry News' latest survey (front page of Web site) and those people the magazine talked to yesterday, Barack Obama gets the nod over John McCain for president of the United States.
"I see him as a brilliant candidate, thoughtful scholar, engaged activist and American success story," said David Parrett, marketing manager of L.H. Thomson. "While many people have commented on Obama's skill as an orator—and he is good—I have been most impressed by his careful, deliberative approach to the campaign and his policy proposals going forward. He stayed above the fray and did not react to the sophomoric attempts to involve him in traditional political mudslinging."
Scott USA marketing manager Adrian Montgomery will be casting his ballot for Obama as well.
"I am voting for Obama for a multitude of reasons, but I do believe he will repair our damaged reputation in the international community," Montgomery said. "Also he is well spoken and touches every point that is important in my own vision of the future America."
Tomac Bikes owner Joel Smith said that Obama has a more developed foreign policy plan, and an exit strategy for the war in Iraq.
"As clichéd as it sounds, I feel a glimmer of hope with Obama, that he may break this country out of the downward spiral it seems to be heading," Smith said.
Industry consultant Jay Townley wouldn't give up who he was voting for.
"I am going to tell you I am voting, and urge your readers to go to their polling place and cast their vote for which ever candidates on the ballot they feel are best qualified to move our country, and our industry forward to a better future," Townley said.
