AUSTIN, TEXAS (BRAIN)—The owner of an Austin, Texas wheel manufacturing plant plans to rebuild following a fire that destroyed the factory on September 23.
Nimble designs, manufactures and sells high performance bicycle wheels. The company’s 3,000-square-foot plant and its inventory was lost in the blaze, which be linked to an electrical surge, according to Austin news reports.
The week before the fire, production at the plant was halted due to an electrical surge that blew out a series of power transformers. The fire started the day production started again.
David Thayer, owner of Nimble, told a local television station that his production manager was the only person inside the building at the time of the blaze.
“And my first instructions were, actually my first question was ‘Did you call 911?’ The second question was ‘Can you see your way out of there and get out of there?’ And he said, ‘Well, I think I can help.’ And I said, ‘Get out,’” Thayer said.
No one was injured in the fire.
Nimble, which sells consumer-direct, posted this message to its customers on its Web site:
“We will continue to support with technical advice but we will not be able to support you with parts or product until we rebuild. Please check our Web site for status. Some products may be discontinued. Please be patient with our response time as we are stretched with the current crisis.”
