Touting the largest prize purse this year in U.S. mountain bike racing, the stage race is open to men and women and includes the Exploration Peak Time Trial, The Super D, Fat Tire Criterium and the Cottonwood Cross Country.
Stage race registration is $120 for Pro, Semi-Pro (men’s division only), Expert and Sport categories. Beginner category stage race registration is $110. Early registration is encouraged; stage race fees increase after August 15 by $10 and by $30 after September 17. Pros and Semi-Pros must register for the complete stage race.
Beginner, Sport and Expert categories feature omnium scoring, where riders enter individual events or compete in the complete stage race and points are assigned for individual races. The cost for individual event registration is: Exploration Peak Time Trial, $35, Super D, $40 and Cottonwood Cross Country, $45. The Fat Tire Criterium is only available as a part of the full stage race registration. Individual/omnium race fees increase on August 15 by $5.00 and September 17 by $10.00.
Expert, Sport and Beginner categories are conducted in five-year age group classes as follows: 18-and-under, 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54 and 55-plus based on NORBA racing age classes. Age classes with fewer than 10 entries will be combined with the closest lower age group (55-plus and 18-and-under excluded).
The race features an entry fee payback program. Through the program, a percentage of entry fees are awarded back to registered racers, creating a prize pool so that larger more competitive categories have larger cash purses. Each category has a guaranteed prize list, with a varying percentage of entry fees added to this guarantee. A total prize purse of $25,000 is available with cash awards in every category.
