Niner offers new eccentric BB design and new carbon wheels

Published April 28, 2014

FT. COLLINS, Colo. (BRAIN) — Niner introduced several new products this week, including a new eccentric bottom bracket design to convert some of its models to singlespeed use, new carbon-rimmed wheels for its complete cyclocross and mountain bikes, and a new color and two new build kit options for its RLT 9 gravel grinder/cyclocross bike.

The BioCentric 30 eccentric bottom bracket is intended for frames with Press Fit 30 bottom brackets, including Niner's AIR 9 and RLT 9. Niner is now taking orders for the set, which will ship in early July.

The sealed angle-bearing bottom bracket is integrated into the cups of the BioCentric 30 and is capable of handling most 24mm spindle cranks. It can offset the spindle 8.5mm from center, giving a wider range of adjustment than most eccentrics. It is fixed in place by two bolts that apply a clamping force on the outside edges of the bottom bracket shell. It will retail for $139.

The new carbon wheels are going to be offered in 29er mountain bike and 700c 'cross/gravel bike set ups. The mountain rim is tubeless compatible and is 23mm wide inside, 27mm outside. It will be offered with a 15mm front axle and a 12x142 rear axle. The rear hub will be compatible with 10 or 11-speed, single speed or SRAM XD. Weight is 1,670 grams per pair.

The carbon 'cross wheels are 17mm wide inside, 23mm outside. The front hub can be set up for quick release or 15mm thru axle; the rear can be standard QR or 12x142 thru-axle. The cassette is single-, 10- or 11-speed compatible. The wheels weigh 1,410 grams per pair.

The new carbon wheels will be available first in Niner's complete bike parts kits; they will be available in the aftermarket in mid-summer.

Finally, the RLT 9 will be available in a new Black/Niner Red paint scheme, as well as Mint and Industry Gray. Niner added an Ultegra Di2 hydraulic brake parts kit and a new 105 11-speed kit with Avid BB7 cable-pull disc brakes. The company is continuing to offer a SRAM Force 22 kit as well.
