Saris' Chris Fortune is thankful to be in the industry — and over COVID-19

Published November 26, 2020

Editor's note: Chris Fortune, the founder and CEO of Saris, shared this letter to the industry that he asked to be published on Thanksgiving.

I’m writing this letter on Thanksgiving because I want to share how thankful we are to be in the bike industry. And, I want everyone to know that we are all going to get through this pandemic together. I know there is a lot of fear out there, but we have a lot to be thankful for.

Last month I had COVID. My wife and I both tested positive although our 15-year-old son never did. It came up through the family from one of our grandchildren playing at an indoor soccer complex.  My three daughters and their kids, along with us, all total 18. Fifteen of us got it and recovered. I had cancer and diabetes and my whole family told me I was going to die if I got it. It got me down and I was bed-ridden, but I was never out!  No hospitalizations or complications. I must have good genes. My mother is still alive at 95. Some of the family lost taste and/or smell. With the grandkids ages 2-12 they weren’t slowed down. We’re so glad to have this behind us.

I wanted to share my story along with a sentiment of hope to the cycling community. We are grateful to be in this industry and working through this challenging time together.
