Vista Outdoor sales flat in action sports segment

NEW YORK (BRAIN) — Sales by Vista Outoor's action sports brands, which include Bell and Giro, were flat in the company's second quarter, ending Sept. 29.

Quarterly revenue in the category totaled $83.9 million, down less than 1% from the period last year, when the category registered $84.7 million.

For the first half, sales in action sports were down 1.7%, from $154.4 million last year to $151.8 million this year.

The action sports category includes Bell, Giro, and Blackburn, and includes sales to the bike, snow and power sports businesses. CamelBak is in the company's outdoor recreation category.

Across all its divisions, Vista Outdoor's sales were $445 million, down 19% from the prior-year quarter, or down 7% on an organic basis, excluding results from the sale of the company's eyewear brands and firearms brands in the same period last year.

Vista announced last month that it has hired Chris Sword to manage Bell and Giro. Sword, who most recently was president of Pearl Izumi, replaces Jen Harned, who left the company earlier this year.

The company has said it plans to sell off the bike brands, but has indicated it plans to re-invest in the brands before actively looking for a buyer.

Vista's ammunition sales took a hit this year when Walmart announced it would stop carrying certain types of ammunition.
