BOULDER, CO (BRAIN)—Leisure Trends asked active Americans about their spending plans in the upcoming months. Close to 50 percent of active Americans plan to spend less on sports related gear, clothing and equipment, while only 1.6 percent plan to spend more. The rest (48.2 percent) plan to spend the same amount.
Many people plan to buy what they “need” not what they “want.” Even those who are not feeling the crunch yet are being careful with their spending, just in case.
Travel plans should fare better. Over two in five active Americans don't plan to change their travel this winter, but one in five are expecting to do something less expensive than originally planned. More than 7 percent are really feeling the crunch and will cancel their leisure-travel plans. Over a quarter have no travel plans, yet, this winter.
Leisure Trends Group Most Active Americans Panel (MAAP£) is a consumer database of 2.6 million active consumers and research panel comprised of highly active and engaged outdoor, fitness and sports enthusiasts. These very active Americans or Alpha consumers are differentiated from the average American by their strong interest in sports and recreational activities, higher incomes and education levels achieved and a passion to remain routinely active. MAAP represents the 20 percent of the American population that accounts for nearly 50 percent of all purchases of sports and recreational merchandise.
