Tucson's Ben's Bike celebrates reopening of Giant Partner Store

Published March 9, 2017

TUCSON, Ariz. (BRAIN) — Ben Chandler has recently celebrated the grand reopening of his Ben's Bike store on South Houghton Road here. Chandler first opened his business in 2011 and decided late last year to partner with Giant's Retail Services Team to redesign and enhance the store's look and feel.

The Giant Partner Store designation means Ben's Bikes devotes about 80 percent of its floor space to Giant, Liv, and Momentum bikes and gear. Color themes throughout the business, as well as signage and messaging, highlight Giant's brands. In a press release from Giant, Chandler said that customers coming into his 2,900-square foot business almost always comment on the store's new look. "They say things like 'wonderful layout,' 'spacious,' 'it's so open and easy to get around.' The most common phrase I hear is simply, 'I love it!'"

"The people at Giant have an amazing knowledge of what makes a positive customer experience," he said in the release. "The store now is an even better manifestation of what I wanted in the beginning."

The grand reopening was held on Saturday, February 25, and featured mountain bike trials performances by Giant Athlete Ambassador Jeff Lenosky. The store also held raffles with prizes from Giant, Shimano, Kali Protectives, and Nite Rider. "My seven amazing employees were busy all day," Chandler said. "There were over 200 people who turned out; we sold 10 bikes and an amazing amount of gear. It was just a great day to introduce our remodel to Tucson's cycling community."

"Ben's Bikes has been one of best retailers in the Arizona market," said Eric Woods, Giant's regional manager for the Southwest. "Having Ben and his staff step up their partnership as a Giant Partner Store is a testament to our continued growth in the territory, as well as our nonstop focus and dedication to the independent bicycle dealer network. We are grateful for Ben's belief in our product and brand vision. We look forward to many more years of growth together!"

The store is one mile from Fantasy Island Mountain Bike Park, which has more than 20 miles of singletrack. It's also within easy reach of "The Loop," a series of paved paths shared by cyclists and pedestrians that run more than 100 miles and are free of cars.

Chandler is coach of the Vail High School Mountain Bike Team. He also works with the Pima County Bicycle and Pedestrian Program to improve safety and access for walkers and cyclists throughout the region. Ben's Bikes offers "Full Moon" rides every month, as well as weekly Monday night group rides departing from the shop.
