CHICAGO (BRAIN) — Timbuk2 on Friday celebrated the opening of its new retail store in Chicago, the fourth U.S. location for the bag and accessories brand and first east of the Mississippi.
The 2,100-square-foot retail space is at 1623 N. Damen Ave. in Chicago’s Bucktown neighborhood in a building that was formerly a firehouse.
Timbuk2 partnered with award-winning design and architecture firm Gensler to design the community-oriented store. Design features include exposed brick walls to preserve historical architectural details, a designated hub for events and rides, an indoor San Francisco-style “parklet” for relaxing, and custom-crafted tables and display fixtures.
Timbuk2 Chicago will also launch a bike share program in June.
“We’re thrilled to open our first national store outside of the West in Chicago,” said Timbuk2 brand director Lizzy Fallows. “As one of the most progressive cities for bike commuters, Chicago is a natural fit for Timbuk2. We’re excited to evolve with city’s bike culture and serve as a go-to destination for all things cycling, lifestyle and beyond.”
Timbuk2 opened its flagship San Francisco store in 2006. Within the past year it has also opened locations in Seattle, Denver and Singapore — the brand’s first international store.
