CHAPEL HILL, NC (BRAIN) — Performance Bicycle is plotting an aggressive growth strategy in the first half of 2013, with plans to open five stores in Florida — its first locations in the state — and one new store in Arizona.
“Florida has a vibrant and growing cycling community, and we’re looking forward to becoming a part of that on the local level. While Florida’s always been a strong state for our e-commerce business, we’re very excited to serve Florida cyclists even better with our five initial locations,” said Performance CEO David Pruitt.
To serve the state’s well-established triathlon market, all the Florida locations will carry a deep inventory of clothing, bicycles and accessories for triathletes, the company said in a statement. Performance will open stores in Fort Lauderdale and Tampa in March; Winter Park, just outside Orlando, in April; Boca Raton in May; and Jacksonville in June.
The Arizona store, Performance’s sixth in the state and fourth in the Phoenix metro area, is set to open in April in Mesa. All told, the openings raise Performance’s store count to 110 locations in 20 states, said company spokesman Nick Valente.
In addition, Performance will hold a grand reopening March 15 for its redesigned Bay Area store in San Rafael, California, which will have a soft opening this Friday.
