WATERLOO, Wis. (BRAIN) — Trek Bicycle announced the recall of all Allant+ 7 e-bike models with Tektro brakes because the rear brake hose can be damaged if it interferes with the headlight or headlight mounting bracket.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice also noted that the hose can kink and "break" when turning the handlebars, causing the rider to lose control of the bike. There have been 58 reports of riders losing control of the recalled bikes, including two minor injuries involving scrapes and bruises.
The affected models are the Allant+ 7 (Nautical Navy), Allant+ 7 Lowstep (Nautical Navy), Allant+ 7S (Nautical Navy and Matte Quicksilver), and Allant+ 7 S Stagger (Nautical Navy and Matte Quicksilver). Trek is printed on the frame and the model name is printed on the toptube. The recall affects about 7,000 units.
Trek asks that consumers not ride the affected models and contact your local Trek retailer to schedule a service appointment for inspection and/or repair. Trek will provide a replacement headlight mounting bracket and rear brake hose, if warranted, at no cost. In addition, Trek will give customers a $10 USD/$13CAD in-store credit that can be used toward any Trek or Bontrager merchandise. The credit is good through Dec. 31, 2023, and has no cash value.
The recalled models were sold at Trek-owned and other bicycle stores nationwide and online at trekbikes.com from January 2022 through June 2023 for about $3,800.
