(BRAIN) — Brompton Electric issued a recall Monday on all of its e-bikes to replace the front mudguard stay to increase tire clearance and a more secure latch to prevent excessive battery bag movement that can result in disconnections.
At the end of 2021, Brompton said it began building all e-bikes with those two design upgrades after customer feedback. Since then, it received reports of mudguard issues on some models before the upgrade was fitted, which have resulted in injury.
In some circumstances an object can be trapped between the mudguard stay and tire that can cause the mudguard getting caught on the tire with the wheel being inhibited or stopping suddenly.
Although Brompton said the risk of an accident occurring is "very low," it has started to repair all affected bikes as part of the official recall.
Brompton Electric owners should visit Brompton.com and follow the steps to get the free upgrades.
