SEYMOUR, CT (BRAIN)—In cooperation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Thule is voluntarily recalling Fit Kit numbers 3068 and 3069 used in conjunction with the 460 and 460R Podium Foot Packs.
Thule has determined that the bolt(s) used to secure the foot to the vehicle were manufactured to a hardness that may cause the bolt(s) to be brittle and potentially break under stress. This may result in the bolt(s) snapping off during use with or without a load. The unsecured rack and load can then come loose while driving creating a potential hazard to the consumer and/or others on the roadway. There have been no reported injuries.
The Fit Kits involved were sold at bicycle, sporting goods, and automobile supply stores between January 2008 and March 2009. Consumers should stop using these racks immediately and contact Thule toll-free at 800-238-2388 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. (EST) for information on how to obtain free Recall Kits (includes silver-colored replacement bolts and instructions).
Consumers can also obtain information on this recall online at www.thuleracks.com.
