CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (BRAIN) — American Bicycle Group, the parent of the Quintana Roo, Litespeed, and Remot bike brands, has announced "a strategic alliance" with HED Cycling to co-develop a HED wheelset specific for Quintana Roo's disc brake bikes.
The brand is now offering the codeveloped Vanquish 6 GP wheelset as an option on its custom-built disc brake bike models, the PRsix, PRfive and the PRfour.
The company said the new wheelset lets QR customers upgrade to a custom-built race wheel for about $2,000 less than other carbon race wheel options.
The wheels are made in HED's Minnesota factory and use the same patented rim shape that HED uses for all of its disc-specific wheelsets. The 6 GP rim shape is distinct from other HED wheels, though, with a 30mm external width (21mm internal width). Its aerodynamics are optimized for use with 23-28mm tires.
"With this wheelset, the HED team has taken Steve Hed's vision for high-performance, aerodynamic wheels and expanded on it with creative-thinking and integrity. I know our athletes will greatly appreciate the effort that went into this new wheel," said ABG CEO Peter Hurley.
"The Vanquish 6 GP wheelset was our first pair of full carbon clinchers and we took a very collaborative approach to developing it with Quintana Roo," said HED's CEO, Anne Hed. "The end result is something that I know my husband would have approved of. He loved nothing more than developing technologically advanced wheels for an unmatched value, and that's what we did with QR."
Quintana Roo will display the new wheels at the Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Texas North American Championships in The Woodlands, Texas this weekend.
