OGDEN, Utah (BRAIN) — Mavic's trademark yellow race neutral support vehicles will be provided by Volkswagen this year at North American events.
Mavic has reached an agreement with Volkswagen of America, Inc. to be the official vehicle sponsor of its 2016 United States Special Service Course neutral assistance program.
Volkswagen has supplied five 2016 VW Golf SportWagens that will work cycling events coast-to-coast all spring, summer and fall.
"Volkswagen's support of the cycling community runs deep," said Mike Wilson, the brand manager of Mavic Americas. "To be the continued beneficiary of their generosity is something we're both humbled by and excited about. The Golf SportWagen is the perfect vehicle for handling every situation race day can throw at us."
In addition to providing race support at major U.S. races such as the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah, a Mavic Volkswagen expo car will give race spectators a chance to go ride in a support vehicle and listen live to race radio, putting spectators in the heat of the action. The yellow Mavic Volkswagen expo car will be easy to spot in the demo area near the start/finish line of major races throughout the U.S.
"The yellow Mavic support car is an iconic part of cycling the world over," said Ryan Forkenbrock, Volkswagen of America, Inc.'s sports marketing coordinator. "Its simple mission — to help riders regardless of team affiliation or position in the race — is something we can proudly support, and we know that the Golf SportWagen is up to the task. We're happy to take part in this noble mission with Mavic and are delighted to provide this famous, yellow car."
