Niner releases 29er-plus model, auctions special edition for IMBA

FT. COLLINS, Colo. (BRAIN) — Niner is releasing its first 29er-plus bike model, the ROS 9 Plus, a steel hardtail that accepts 29x3-inch tires and can be set up with gears or singlespeed. In coordination with the model launch, the company is auctioning a special edition of the new bike to benefit IMBA. Niner has done similar auctions in the previous four years.

The ROS 9 Plus has a geometry modeled on Niner's long travel hardtails, with short chainstays and a slack head tube angle. The 4130 chromoly frame is mated with a chromoly fork with 15mm thru axle and a tapered steerer. The frame has an eccentric bottom bracket for single-speed use and is designed exclusively for single chainring use. It has internal and external dropper post cable routing, removable cable guides and forged seat and chainstay bridges. 

A complete standard bike with Niner's 3-Star SRAM X1 parts kit will retail for $3,000.

Niner is building nine special edition ROS 9 Plus bikes to be auctioned for IMBA this month. The custom-painted singlespeeds are valued at more than $4,500 each; 100 percent of the auction proceeds will go to IMBA.

"IMBA is stoked that Niner is continuing its support for mountain bike trails and access through such a creative, visible campaign. The money raised will help fund our national advocacy work, which serves to protect and expand access to local trail systems. We handle D.C. dirt so you can play in the dirt," said Mark Eller, IMBA's director of communications.

The auction for the nine bikes begins at 6:30pm MST Thursday and runs through Aug. 24, the last day of the IMBA World Summit in Steamboat Springs, Colo.
