BOULDER, CO (BRAIN) — Cyclists along Colorado's Front Range raised $120,000 for the town of Jamestown, which was flooded and left isolated by last month's floods. Jamestown, which has fewer than 300 residents, is a popular destination and rest stop for road cyclists in the region.
Much of the money was raised at an event held outside Boulder on Oct. 19. That event included silent auctions of goods and services donated by riders and regional suppliers and retailers. Many noted pro cyclists attended, including former Giro d'Italia winner Andy Hampsten and two-time Giro d'Italia Femminile winner Mara Abbott.
The fundraising continues with the sale of commemorative jerseys and other items. Organizers also are planning future fundraising events as Jamestown continues to rebuild its infrastructure and homes.
