Saris awards bike corrals to two communities • Online registration opens for Canadian expo • Hawley distributing NOW Energy Bars

MADISON, WI (BRAIN) Friday June 1 2012 8:55 AM MT—Saris Cycling Group has awarded bike corrals to the Old State Bank in Tenino, Washington, and the Union Jack Pub in Broad River, Indiana, chosen from among about 70 entries.

The two locations received the most votes based on showing the greatest demand and community support for increased bike parking.

“We are thrilled with the amount of interest for bike parking within communities," said Saris parking product manager Sarah Reiter. "We want more people to consider cycling as a means of transportation, and to realize the benefits bike parking can bring to a local business district, and this contest certainly proved there is a desire within communities for increased bike parking."

Remodeled after being abandoned for three decades, Old State Bank sits on the corner of the city's main intersection and is immediately accessible to the city park bike trail system.

Union Jack Pub showed an equally great need for bicycle parking. The pub has joined forces with IndyCOG and Green Broad Ripple to promote respect for cycling by organizing several events that culminated at Union Jack, where both participants and supporters are encouraged to ride.
