Nearby shops are displayed with directions, a link to the retailer’s website if applicable and a picture of the storefront.

Paul Turner hosts bikes race on Hawaii property
MAKAWAO, HW (BRAIN) Thursday April 26 2012 4:57 PM MT—RockShox and Maverick Bikes co-founder Paul Turner is hosting a bike race on his Hawaii property to raise money to combat invasive species there.
Turner is holding the event, called The Invasive Races, on May 19.
“We’re really battling invasive plants and the axis deer,” Turner said.
The four-mile course is on Turner's 140-acre property, which was once used to grow pineapples.
“We’ve been trying to rehabilitate the fields, which suffer from years of mono-cropping, but the christmas berry, fire weed and silky oak are making it even more challenging. The axis deer population on Maui is growing at an alarming rate because they have no natural predators. They eat farmer's crops, cause road accidents and have destroyed native trees we planted. Not only is it hard work, but we must also buy expensive herbicides and hire eradication experts to help with the fight”.
To raise awareness and offset these costs, Turner has teamed up with Donnie Arnoult, owner of Maui Cyclery in Paia.
If successful, Turner and Arnoult hope to expand into a race series. “We’d also like to make the course available for scholastic competitions or trail running races," Turner said.

LAVA magazine to make newsstand debut next month
SOLANA BEACH, CA (BRAIN) Thursday April 26 2012 5:03 PM MT—LAVA, the official publication of Ironman, will make its newsstand debut on May 15. After only being available to subscribers for two years, the June 2012 edition will hit newsstands with a cover price of $6.95.
“We’re thrilled to bring LAVA to a broader audience with our first newsstand issue,” said publisher Heather Gordon. "Given the growth of the sport and excitement brought about by Lance Armstrong's return, the timing couldn't be better for us to present our publication—and the sport of triathlon—to the greater public through newsstand.”
LAVA is published nine times per year and also offers a digital edition with expanded features, videos and photo galleries.

SRAM extends Tour of the Gila sponsorship
SILVER CITY, NM (BRAIN) Thursday April 26 2012 5:13 PM MT—SRAM announced this week it is continuing as title sponsor of New Mexico's Tour of the Gila, a stage race that will hold its 26th edition next month.
The race was on the verge of shutting down three years ago before SRAM stepped in to sponsor it. That sponsorship, plus appearances by Lance Armstrong and Levi Leipheimer, helped propel the event to new levels.
“This race is an underdog, but it's an incredible event, and we are so proud to support a race that pushes riders to their limits with challenging terrain, weather, and competitive fields. No one ever forgets racing the Gila,” said David Zimberoff, SRAM Global Marketing Director.
The Gila is now a UCI 2.2 and has been added to the America Tour calendar. This year's race will also be covered via Tour Tracker, so fans can follow in real time on mobile devices.
Raleigh Bicycles offers bike-to-school scholarships at Ohio school
BAY VILLAGE, OH (BRAIN) Thursday April 26 2012 5:29 PM MT—Raleigh Bicycles will be awarding two scholarships of $1,000 to participants in the Bay Bike To School Challenge in Ohio.
To apply for the scholarships, participants in the bike-to-school program must apply first and then ride from home to school at least 10 times between May 7-24.
Representatives from Raleigh and the Bay Bike To School Challenge will select the winners based on application essays, as well as participation in Bay Bike To School Challenge.

In addition to offering these scholarships, Raleigh is providing the program’s grand prizes (two Raleigh bicycles each for Bay Middle School and Bay High School). Raleigh will also give each school $500 if students exceed bike-riding milestones set by last year’s Bay Bike To School Challenge.
