Gallup, New Mexico, awarded 2013-2014 24-hour championships • Specialized Cape Epic race bikes being auctioned for charity

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (BRAIN) Thursday March 29 2012 4:31 PM MT—USA Cycling has awarded Gallup, New Mexico the 2013 and 2014 Mountain Bike 24-Hour National Championships.

The events will be held on the third Sunday in June in each year in conjunction with 24 Hours in the Enchanted Forest.

The 16-mile course is nearly entirely singletrack and starts at 7,850 feet of elevation and reaches as high as 8,350 feet of elevation, featuring 1,344 feet of climbing.

The two-year agreement between USA Cycling and race organizer Zia Rides is expected to bring approximately 300 athletes to New Mexico.

This year's 24-hour championships are being held in Colorado Springs, Colorado, September 29-30.

Specialized auctioning Sauser and Stander race bikes for charity

KAYAMANDI, South Africa ((BRAIN) Thursday March 29 2012 4:42 PM MT—A South African children's charity is auctioning the Specialized Epic 29er race bikes used by Christoph Sauser and Burry Stander at the 2012 Absa Cape Epic.

Made specifically for the race, the Epic bikes are painted in the colors of Songo, a social development program that provides sport and recreational activities to South African children. The auction has already begun and the bidding will be closed at the end of the race on Sunday. All proceeds will go to the Songo.info Foundation, which Sauser helped start four years ago.

Sauser's bike is a large and Stander's is a medium. Each bike is built with Roval Control SL 29 wheels, Rockshox/Specialized SID Brain fork, a Fox/Specialized rear shock and SRAM XX components.
