Eurobike warns of alleged "Expo-Guide" scam

Published March 20, 2012

FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, Germany (BRAIN) Tuesday March 20 2012 12:01 PM MT—Organizers of Germany's EuroBike trade show are warning exhibitors to not do business with a company that may contact them offering a listing in an event guide.

EuroBike says it is not connected to Commercial Online Manuals S de RL de CV, a company that lists its address as being in Mexico. Many expo organizers worldwide have warned off their exhibitors from doing business with the same or similar companies, and the Internet is rife with sites, such as stopecg.org devoted to the company's alleged scam and how to deal with it.

The company did not respond to emailed questions from Bicycle Retailer nor a message submitted via its website contact form.

Eurobike's Carina Blass sent an email to exhibitors this week.

"We would like to inform you that the company Commercial Online Manuals S de RL de CV, Mariano Escobedo # 752-9, México D.F. 11590, gathered exhibitor information from several editions of our trade fair catalogues," Blass wrote.

"Those exhibitors may be contacted and prompted to update their data for Expo-Guide by an order form. The structure of the order form gives the impression that the entry is free of charge. In fact, costs to the amount of 3,500.00 € will result from the small print.

"We would like to point out that EUROBIKE or Messe Friedrichshafen keeps no business connection with the aforementioned company.

"We advise you not to make use of the offer concerning updates or media entries. If you signed the document by mistake please recall the agreement or react with a rescission due to the intent to mislead."
