COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (BRAIN)—USA Cycling will be offering race directors training and a certification program next year.
Until now, race directors only had the option of using club affiliation to sanction events with USA Cycling. With the new race director license, professional race directors now have the option to permit events without club affiliation at the same license cost.
Clubs will still be able to put on events as they have in the past. Groups organizing a bike race in 2012 do not need a race director license in addition to a club license, only one or the other, the organization said.
USA Cycling will begin rolling out the new program over a two-year period beginning next year.
Beginning in 2013, race director certification classes will be held in various locations around the U.S.
